GREEN Winter Homework

 GREEN: WINTER
Please go over the music booklet once per day. For the WINTER term the goal is to continue to build a repertoire of songs and positive musical experiences. If you ever have any questions please ask me during class, or email me.

WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART
We will now start to listen to the music of MOZART. I would like the children to recognize the famous piece by Mozart called, 'EINE KLEINE NACHTMUSIK'. Please play music by MOZART as the children colour their weekly handout.
For the FALL TERM  we will be learning about the instruments of the KEYBOARD and STRING FAMILIES.

THEORY: In the Green class the students will now learn to read and write music upon the staff in G major pentatonic. This will be a bit confusing at first. The main thing I want to get across is the relationship between the lines and spaces of the music staff. Going through this program will make reading and writing music easier in the future.

RECORDER: We will continue to learn songs in the key of F major with the recorder! We will continue to add the pitch names in capital letters under the notes.

SOLFEGE: The Musical Rainbow Program gets the children writing music as well. When writing music we start with using solfege names : do, re, mi, fa sol, la ti, doh'. The solfege indicates the function of the note within the scale. We write these in lower case letters on top of the notes on the staff.

We will learn two names for a note. Above the music staff we will write the solfege names (s = sol, m = mi, etc) in lower case letters. Then on the Green recorder papers we will write the pitch names in upper case letters under the notes (F G A C D)

Note: We are switching to learn to write notes in the G major pentatonic scale.
This might be a bit confusing for those who think the note C is the only note that can be 'doh'.

In fact 'doh' can be in 12 different places. Musicians need to learn 12 Major scales and all their pitch names. We are young! We have time!
