If I see that you would be a great addition to the teaching team I will contact you to set up a zoom zoom session. I am looking for people who are musical, motivated and excited to present musical activities to young children. 

During the zoom session I will ask you to sing me a children's song, something like Twinkle. And if you play an instrument I will ask you to play a bit for me. 
  I want to get a sense of your musicianship. 

I also want to know if you have experience working with young children in any capacity. Teaching preschoolers is a lot different than teaching older children. During the classes you simply just do things, no explanations, no instructions, the children will follow whatever you go. You must engage them.

   Every year I take everyone out for a free lunch and a chance to gather and share our music stories after another year of teaching.

My Musical Rainbow Background

I've been teaching music to young children for 40 years at Place des Arts in Coquitlam. I have developed a program called the MUSICAL RAINBOW. Each level is a colour of the Rainbow, RED - preschool
YELLOW - Kindergarten
GREEN - grade one 
BLUE - grade two 
PURPLE - grade three 

After Purple the children graduate and are ready to begin private lessons on an instrument. They have learned the basics of reading and writing music, can sing in-tune, know many rhythms, some music history and can play Bach, Beethoven and Mozart on the recorder. 

YOUR FOCUS with be on the RED LEVEL with the preschoolers

Along with teaching at Place des Arts I have gone to many Montessori preschools over the years to lead music circles. Preschools and daycares would often call me and ask if I could come and do music at their schools. 

I eventually became too busy and would pass these jobs along to other musician friends that i knew. 

Then about 15 years ago I decided to make a business of finding music teachers for schools and acting like a booking agent to find the best teacher for the schools. As I am getting older, I am not able to teach as much so this activity is providing income in my retirement. 

YOUR JOB 

To travel to various preschools to lead music circles. 30 minute sessions with 3 & 4 year olds. 20 minute sessions with infants & toddlers. 

You can fit in however many classes you like. Weekly, Bi-weekly or once a month, depending on what the schools want. 

To engage preschool children in fun joyous musical activities. 

You are a sub-contractor, there is no company, you are self-employed, there are no benefits, you are paid for each class you teach. Payments made at the end of each month. 

Your pay is $35 for a 30 minute class and $25 for a 30 minute class. 

You will need to get a criminal record check. We can get this through one of the schools you teach at, and then use this and share it for all the other schools. You will need to pay for the criminal record check. Cost is $28. to the government. 

Where are the preschools?

I currently have teachers at about 70 preschools. New schools are wanting teachers as we go.

I will find schools near you that you can teach at. I have been sending out promo to all preschools and daycares to get more work. 

Currently there are a few schools where I need teachers, and more will come. 

Part-Time or Full-Time: The schools will only have music circles either in the morning between 9am and around noon, Monday to Friday, or some may have classes after school starting at around 3 or 4. 

Some teachers work full-time and travel to many schools each week, some only go to one or two schools each week and work part-time. It is up to what fits best with you. 

TEACHER TRAINING

If you have experience and are ready to start leading a music class right away, great I will set you up with schools right away. 

If not, I will provide free training. 
You can join the RAINBOW HUMMINGBIRD MAGICAL MUSICAL SPA for $7 a month. 

This includes a special section of resources for teachers. 

Weekly zoom sessions on Thursday evenings to train and learn new material throughout the year. 

I will give you free lesson plans each month, and can lend out instruments as well. I would suggest getting a set of about 25 egg shakers (cost is only about $20 from Amazon)  to start, and can grow your instruments from there. 

You can also visit my class at Place des Arts to watch me teach and we can learn together. Plus, I can set you up to watch some of the other teachers in the preschools to give you an idea of how to run the music circles.

So, here is an overview of the work and what is expected of you. There is no full-time job, it is part-time to start and is something that will build as we go. 

I will set you up with a zoom zoom meeting first, and we can go from there. If you are not interested please let me know and I will take you off the Teaching Team list. 

Working with children is such a delight. We are building future generations. It is important to instill an appreciation for all cultures, for all peoples of the world in the souls of the young children. Let's teach them to be kind and loving towards each other, towards nature and the earth, and towards everyone. We are all 'world citizens' building a better world on this planet! 

Yes, we get paid 'money' for our work, but when working with children our true wage is 'LOVE'!
